A new crypto-linked political controversy has erupted in Washington following a reported $500 million investment from a UAE royal-connected group in World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a project tied to the TRUMP family. The deal, signed on January 16, 2025, granted a 49% stake to a group linked to Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan just days before Donald Trump's return to the White House.

Rep. Ro Khanna, ranking member of the Select Committee on China, has launched a formal investigation into potential conflicts of interest and national security risks. Khanna demanded full transparency from WLFI co-founder Zach Witkoff, requesting ownership documents, payment flows, and internal communications related to the transaction.

The investigation focuses on three key areas: approval processes for the deal, fund movement trails, and whether policy decisions were influenced by the investment. This probe underscores growing scrutiny of crypto's intersection with geopolitics and high-profile financial dealings.
